The purpose of all air conditioning systems is to maintain pre-set temperature and relative humidity, regardless of external conditions. Contrasting the standard heating and cooling systems, THERMOGRID systems provide better internal comfort and lower energy costs at significantly lower water temperatures in heating mode and at higher fluid temperatures in cooling mode. THERMOGRID systems can be installed in buildings for various purposes. Moreover, they fit perfectly into the interior, both in new constructions and major repairs. The combination of efficient generators (heat pumps, condensing boilers, etc.) and THERMOGRID panels guarantees energy saving, a high level of comfort, lack of airflows and sound reduction.
The main difference between THERMOGRID and standard air conditioning systems is the way they devote heat and cold. Convection systems keep cool or warm using the air. THERMOGRID is inspired by nature. The heat or cold is absorbed by the people and objects and the air temperatures is influenced by the temperatures of the surrounding objects and surfaces.
THERMOGRID provides better comfort at higher air temperatures when in cooling mode. The temperature of the ceiling surface is about 19°C. Heat from the air, walls and people is absorbed by this cooler surface.
In heating mode, THERMOGRID creates the necessary comfort at lower air temperatures. The surface temperature of the panels is about 33°C. The panels give off heat to the other structures and raise the air temperature.
THERMOGRID heating and cooling systems use a larger heat transfer surface (usually the THERMOGRID surface takes most of the ceilings and walls), which allows the cooling water temperature to be only a few degrees higher or lower that the temperature in the room. The small temperature difference allows the use of the heat pumps with a very high conversion factor (COP) and leads to a lower energy consumption.
The main requirement for THERMOGRID cooling system is that the temperature of the cooled water is in the range of 13-16 °C, so that no condensation forms. Due to the smaller temperature differences between the room temperature and the cooling water temperature, radiant cooling systems need a higher flow rate to reach the required power. The water flow rate for THERMOGRID is approximately double the conventional water-cooling system. Nevertheless, the higher flow rates the system has relatively low power. The need of the temperature of the cooled water reaching the cooling ceiling needs to be above the condensation point, is why THERMOGRID panels do not provide enough latent cooling. It is therefore recommended to install additional ventilation system to provide fresh air, which helps to improve the air quality and humidity in the room. Two systems are used for ventilation and air conditioning of the room - a ventilation system for supplying primary air to the meet the ventilation requirements and a secondary water system to ensure a comfortable environment in the room. According to experts, the separation of ventilation and cooling increases the comfort conditions and helps to improve indoor air quality.
